Chapter Eleven Question Two
Q. Privacy is a controversial issue in the Digital Age. Schools have an obligation to ensure student safety, both physical and virtual. When using the Internet or the network, this requires keeping close tabs on student' activity when they are using computers. Do you think this violates students' privacy?
A. Keeping tabs on students as they use the Internet is not a violation of their privacy in the classroom. It is the responsibility of me the teacher to insure that students are intentionally accessing sites and information that are potentially detrimental to their mental or physical well being. I also have an obligation to parents to be a surrogate guardian to protect students from viewing inappropriate information. However, because I am under twenty-five I can see how students would see my monitoring as a violation of their privacy. Most high school students today view themselves as adults and since they possess this viewpoint, they believe they have the right to go to any site on the Web without restriction. What these students fail to realize is that their safety is my top priority, and I want to protect them form being exposed to or influenced by material that could be harmful while they are in my classroom.
Chapter Twelve Question Three
Q. Of the emerging technology trends presented in the chapter or those you discovered through your research on the Web, which emerging technology or trend do you think will have the most significant impact on education?
A. Online web tools and collaboration are the two emerging technology trends that definitely impact education. Because more schools are able to provide quality technology, the use of web tool will allow students the ability to access information quicker.
