On daily basis, teachers use many software applications or online web tools for productivity in the classroom. These are used for both teacher and student advantages. Teachers use them to help ease their work load, create learning tools, and students also become more engaged while the teacher is using some of these tools or documents created using these tools.
During the week we used Google’s online tools to create a document, presentation, and spreadsheet. What Google is trying to do is to have a free tool that anyone can use if they have a computer. They try to promote that there is no need in buying processing, presentation, and database software such as Microsoft Office. However, in my opinion, Google has a long way before they are a threat to companies that sell their product. Google Documents is the most complicated and non-user friendly free web application I have ever used. It is lacking many tools that many are used to using in Microsoft Word. I had many issues with formatting pictures when I needed layers. Google Slides and Spreadsheet were okay to use. With that being said, I was not trying to do anything complex with those tools so they may not be as good as I think.
Overall, there are many tools and software options at our fingertips. It’s a matter of opinion on what works well in our classroom and what we find we can easily work with as educators.
